Who we are
Australians for a Murdoch Royal Commission (AFMRC) is a new organisation to supercharge the campaign taking on Rupert Murdoch’s insidious power over journalism, governments and our future
AFMRC is formed by a coalition of journalists, activists, unionists, political staffers and at least one former prime minister. We are a not-for-profit Incorporated Association, governed by a committee. Our National Director is Kirsti Gorringe.
Already our supporters span tens of thousands and across the continent. Many have written to us with ideas, advice and offers to help, and just from this small and self-selected group of people we can see that support for a news media free from commercial monopolies extends across generations, backgrounds and the political spectrum.
Supporters of AFMRC will have the opportunity to contribute to strategic plans and campaign actions. Our campaign will use the collective power of people working together, and direct that power and pressure toward our parliaments, which must be stronger than Murdoch.
Our record-breaking e-petition in 2020 demonstrated the strength we can amass when we work together. Every day, more people are joining AFMRC to take on Murdoch’s media monopoly. If you’re with us, ‘Who We Are’ also includes you.
